Melinoe

Offering candles to Melione: Greek goddess of funerary rites, nightmares, and keeper of restless spirits. She is Persephone's daughter, although there is debate about who her father may have been-- Hades or Zeus. Because she is depicted as a woman who is half light and half dark, half alive and half corpse, it is assumed that Zeus was the father due to his bright divinity and Persephone's chthonic qualities.

She was born at the mouth of the Cocytus, one of the rivers of the underworld, where Hermes is stationed in his role as psychopomp.  At times, she wanders alongside Hekate, the enigmatic goddess of crossroads and labyrinths. She's surrounded by a swirling throng of lost spirits that cling desperately to the hem of her dress. This spectral procession weaves behind her like a shadowy train of apparitions, whispering tales of the forgotten as she glides through the darkness.

Melinoe presides over night terrors and is said to induce madness. Sleep paralysis may be common as well as insomnia. In the Orphic Hymn to Melione, she is said to manifest in eerie forms: "now plain to the eye, now shadowy, now shining in the darkness, all this in unnerving attacks in the gloom of night." 

Evoke at your own risk! She may be able to assist in relieving paranormal activity in the home, guiding lost souls to their home beyond the mortal plane. If she can cause nightmares, perhaps she can take them away. She may also be a useful spirit to petition for certain kinds of dream spells and astral work. 

Because these candles drip so easily, it's the perfect time to practice some candle divination, also known as Carromancy. Watch how the candle burns. Do you see figures in the wax? Do the flames flicker, grow tall, or hiss? Is there a certain direction in the way the wax is melting? These ritual candles may hold more secrets than you know.

𝐈𝐌𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐓:  These candles melt beautifully and are safe to burn indoors, however, PLEASE be wary of the flame. The more herbs, the bigger and taller the flame with be. Always supervise your candles while burning. These candles have very burnable botanicals. Some herbs may crackle when caught on fire, such as cedar and juniper.

Always burn in a reliable candle holder or in a fireproof dish.
