“Then joyfully she sprang up, and over long distances she ran to her mother, and she threw her arms around her neck and embraced her.” - Homeric Hymn to Demeter
Inspired by the vision in which Persephone emerges from the underworld and into the field of flowers where Demeter waits eagerly to greet her, a vibrant sunrise ascending over the meadow they embrace in.
The kidnapping of Persephone, in it's original text, is fundamentally about the trauma of a mother-daughter separation, whether through marriage or other partnerships. In ancient cultures, arranged marriages were common, and mothers often experienced immense grief as they watched their daughters leave to live with someone else, unsure of when she would see her child again.
Today, we might relate to this loss through life changing moments: when a daughter leaves for college, moves away for work, or entering a marriage of her own choosing—each situation, though necessary, can still bring sorrow.
Persephone and Demeter's story resonates for many because it speaks to the trauma they endured. There’s solace in knowing that great goddesses have faced similar heartache— that a goddess once lost her daughter, and a goddess once lost her mother, in ways that might echo the pain you are experiencing. And that, like them, you can survive it.
To the mother and daughter of the seasons, to the sorrow of parting, the joy of reunion, the cycle that never ends but is endured.

Two 8 inch pillar candles rolled in pressed flowers. Burn time is approximately 3-4 hours.
𝐈𝐌𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐓:
These candles melt beautifully and are safe to burn indoors, however, PLEASE be wary of the flame. The more herbs, the bigger and taller the flame will be. Always supervise your candles while burning. These candles have very burnable botanicals. Some herbs may crackle when caught on fire, such as cedar and juniper.
