Asteria

Offering candles to Asteria, Greek goddess of astrology, prophetic dreams, and falling stars. Her name is derived from the Greek word aster, meaning "star." She is often depicted as a celestial figure, symbolizing both the literal stars above and the metaphorical light that guides individuals through dark times. Asteria is considered the mother of Hekate, the goddess of witchcraft and magic, linking her to mystical and otherworldly realms.

The most iconic story of Asteria tells of the goddess fleeing Mount Olympus after Zeus began pursuing her. In her desperation, she transformed into a quail and soared away from the heavens, only to plunge into the vast, unforgiving sea. Yet, even there, Poseidon’s gaze fell upon her, and he, too, sought to claim her. In a final act of defiance, Asteria wove herself into something greater—a floating island, an ethereal sanctuary adrift upon the waves. This island, radiant and ever-blooming, came to be known as Delos. Revered as a sacred cradle of the gods, Delos is whispered to be the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis, where the very air hums with ancient power and divinity.

Petition Asteria for guidance through periods of uncertainty or darkness, seeking clarity in times of confusion or spiritual direction. She is said to be an oracular spirit, and those who wish to gain insight into their future or require help navigating the unknown might turn to her. She can also be called upon for protection during the night or when venturing into unfamiliar, mysterious, or mystical pursuits.

Simply state your question or intention, light the wick, sit back, and watch how the candle burns. Do you see figures in the wax? Do the flames flicker, grow tall, pop or hiss? Two 6 inch taper candles rolled in locally sourced herbs. These taper candles have been ritually rolled in herbs associated with Asteria such as blue corn flower, lavender, and chrysanthemums. Burn time is approximately 1-3 hours.

These candles melt beautifully and are safe to burn indoors, however, PLEASE be wary of the flame. The more herbs, the bigger and taller the flame will be. Always supervise your candles while burning. These candles have very burnable botanicals. Some herbs may crackle when caught on fire, such as cedar and juniper.
