Baba Yaga
Baba Yaga is a renowned magical figure in Slavic folklore. Some say she's a hideous witch who eats naughty children. Others claim she's a wise woman who gives sage advice, her sternness but nurturing qualities giving way to the familiarities of an old grandmother. To some, she is a dark Goddess as ancient as the earth itself, hovering in a mortar and steering with her trusty pestle between the worlds of the living and the dead.
She is most notoriously known for the home she resides in within the deep dark woodlands. Beneath the floorboards of her house protrudes two chicken legs, its feet wandering and roaming the forest floors to take its inhabitant where she's needed. When her abode finally sinks into the moist embrace of the earth, a macabre barrier of human skulls—remnants of those who once ventured too close—encircles her domain. Her hearth perpetually burns, its smoky tendrils either warning off the unwary or beckoning the daring to venture across her threshold.
Baba Yaga manifests during times of trial or change, emerging suddenly from the void. Her presence serves as a stark reminder of shadow work left unfinished or urgent decisions overlooked. Should she have a message for you, heed it carefully and with intent, for her words will be spoken but once.
She can be conjured for hexing, healing, in times of grief, or other spiritual needs. These candles were crafted as offerings to her, and can serve as a connection to her spirit.
These altar candles are lightly anointed with oils of cinnamon, clove, and vanilla. They were rolled in a variety of spices and herbs that you would find in a cozy cottage kitchen: cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, sage, paprika, and cayenne pepper (because she's spicccy). I added little strips of birch to represent the trees that surround her hut.
Because these candles drip so easily, it's the perfect time to practice some candle divination, also known as Carromancy. Watch how the candle burns. Do you see figures in the wax? Do the flames flicker, grow tall, or hiss? Is there a certain direction in the way the wax is melting? These ritual candles may hold more secrets than you know.
ɪᴛᴇᴍ ᴅᴇsᴄʀɪᴘᴛɪᴏɴ: Two 6 inch taper candles rolled in locally sourced herbs. These taper candles have been ritually rolled in herbs associated with Baba Yaga.
𝐈𝐌𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐓: These candles melt beautifully and are safe to burn indoors, however, PLEASE be wary of the flame. The more herbs, the bigger and taller the flame will be. Always supervise your candles while burning. These candles have very burnable botanicals. Some herbs may crackle when caught on fire, such as cedar and juniper.
Always burn in a reliable candle holder or in a fireproof dish. Please watch the video attached to this listing to see how they burn.
